Pelham High School’s Kenneth Pawlowicz Named Subway® Student-Athlete Scholarship Award Winner
A 2021 Pelham High School graduate, Kenneth Pawlowicz was recently awarded the $1,000 Subway® Student-Athlete Scholarship by local Subway franchisees. The award was announced in early January and is part of the restaurant chain’s partnership with the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Athletic Association (NHIAA).
The Student-Athlete Scholarship is funded by Subway® and awarded to a senior who displays excellence in the areas of academics, athletics, and community service. Seniors set to graduate in 2021 were eligible to apply, and more than 150 applications were received.
During high school, Pawlowicz competed in Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track and Field while excelling in the classroom and maintaining membership in four honor societies, including the National Honor Society. The future University of Maine student challenged himself by taking 10 college-level courses and was named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist and earned an NHIAA Senior Scholar-Athlete Award. Pawlowicz graduated with Honors with Distinction with a GPA of 4.0741.
While Pawlowicz’s academic and athletic successes were impressive, his dedication during his youth to becoming an Eagle Scout made his application stand out.
“For my Eagle Scout project I built an 8' x 20' footbridge on my school's cross country trails so they could start hosting cross country meets again,” said Pawlowicz. “I learned a lot about the construction process while working on it, as it is in a wetlands area, therefore requiring multiple layers of permitting from local, state, and federal agencies.”

"We are thrilled for Kenneth to be the first recipient of this scholarship in New Hampshire,” said Dave Beckwith, local Subway owner and Business Development Agent for the New Hampshire Subway territory. “The Subway® brand has always encouraged our youth to live a healthy and active lifestyle. Kenneth's accomplishments–on the running trails, in track as a long-distance runner, and in school with his amazing grade point average–are impressive. We wish him the best of luck at UMaine!”
The Subway restaurant chain continues to evolve the dining experience, offering guests in more than 100 countries quality ingredients, as well as robust flavor combinations while serving over 6 million made-to-order sandwiches each day.
