Granite State Dairy Promotion Student-Athlete Scholarships Awarded

Two NH Student-Athletes Awarded Scholarships by Granite State Dairy Promotion

Two New Hampshire (NH) student-athletes, Avery Stewart of Fall Mountain Regional High School (FMRHS) and Wade Fisher of Merrimack Valley High School (MVHS), were recently awarded $1,000 scholarships by the Granite State Dairy Promotion.  The application for this new award was announced in early April and is part of the Granite State Dairy Promotion’s partnership with the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic League (NHIAA).

The Student-Athlete Scholarships are funded by NH’s Dairy Farmers.  More than 100 applications were received, and winners were chosen based on academic achievement, athletic leadership and commitment to sport. Additionally, applicants were asked to indicate their interest in sports nutrition while demonstrating ways in which they champion chocolate milk as a sports recovery beverage.

“NH dairy farmers work hard every day to produce the wholesome nutrition found in real milk," said Amy Hall, Director of the Granite State Dairy Promotion. "More than 20 studies prove that chocolate milk is the ultimate sports recovery beverage. We are proud to know athletes like Avery and Wade embrace and value those benefits.”

Meet the winners below.

Avery Stewart | Fall Mountain Regional High School

A 2022 Fall Mountain Regional High School (FMRHS) graduate, Avery Stewart was awarded a $1,000 Student-Athlete Scholarship by the Granite State Dairy Promotion.

During high school, Stewart maintained an impressive 3.84 grade point average while being a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, and Interact Club.  In 2021, Stewart was awarded the St. Michaels College Book Award which “recognizes outstanding students who demonstrate a strong commitment to volunteerism and leadership in their communities.”  Stewart represented the FMRHS Wildcats as a member of the Varsity Soccer and Varsity Basketball teams for four years, and she served as the Senior Team Captain.

“I’ve been a year-round athlete my entire life.  Growing up, my family had a dairy farm and milk was an important part of my diet,” said Stewart. “My mom always stressed the importance of milk and the protein it provides.  Now, I stand by the fact that drinking chocolate milk is beneficial and healthy. It’s the first thing I want after a tough practice, workout, or game.”

Stewart will attend Eastern Connecticut State University in the Fall where she will be play basketball for the Warriors.  She plans to major in Elementary Education.

Wade Fisher | Merrimack Valley High School

Wade Fisher is set to graduate from Merrimack Valley High School in June 2022.   Fisher was awarded a $1,000 Student-Athlete Scholarship by the Granite State Dairy Promotion.

During high school, Fisher graduated from the Concord Regional Technical Center’s Automotive Technology program earning college credit while being recognized for a Magna Cum Laude GPA. He was also accepted into early enrollment college classes at Manchester Community College in the fall of his senior year.  Fisher played baseball for the Pride, too, with leadership qualities including having patience, perseverance, and a positive attitude. This mentality will aid him well in the future.

“My dad grew up on a dairy farm, and I have worked at Jones Dairy Farm in Chichester. After hot summer days on the farms, we remember coming home and mixing up a cold, tall glass of chocolate milk,” said Fisher.  “No matter the season, temperature or event, milk or chocolate milk were served. I would argue that milk is the most versatile and delicious refreshment of all time.”

Fisher will attend Manchester Community College to obtain an Associate Degree in Welding Technology.
